Suzanne Santoro (b. 1946, New York, US) studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and New York University, where she approached the experiments of Dan Flavin and Joseph Kosuth. She moved to Rome between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s; here, she began her feminist militancy and her frequentation of Rivolta femminile thanks to her acquaintance with Carla Lonzi.
Her research in the 1970s focused on the study of the female body and sexuality. She took part in various events in 1975, 1976 and 1977 in Magma, a women-only exhibition curated by Romana Loda. In 1976, she was one of the founders of the self-managed space Cooperativa Beato Angelico in Rome. In the 1980s, she graduated from the Institute of Orthophonology in Rome and became an art therapist, an activity she still carries on today.
Recent exhibitions include The Unexpected Subject. 1978 Art and Feminism in Italy (Frigoriferi Milanesi, 2019).
