Luna Paiva

Luna Paiva (b. 1980, Paris, France) lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. Paiva takes popular objects, whether private, public or urban, all those elements that the human eye no longer sees to underline and reify them. She gilds or casts in bronze everyday items, from the simplest garden chairs to plants, to which we no longer pay attention. She gives them a new aura in a consumer society where everything is thrown away and immediately replaced. With this ambiguous post-ready-made attitude, also spanning from ancient traditions, she proceeds oppositely by sacralising mundane objects as new fetishes while blurring the lines between the idols of the contemporary world; what is supposed to be immediately discarded, stamps with the seal of ephemerality and what is supposed to last for eternity.

This way, she transforms the low into the high, conferring to the banality of common objects a new identity as markers of our time. But her shimmering objects are also outside of time itself. They attempt a true alchemy of the real, a reflection on quickly fading symbols of our era.
