APALAZZOGALLERY is thrilled to announce that Sonia Boyce DBE RA’s work ‘For you, only you’ (2007) entered the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden’s permanent collection!
The three-channel video is the artist’s first work to join the collection, bolstering holdings of time-based artworks by Black British artists such as John Akomfrah, CBE RA, and Isaac Julien.
Boyce fuses a musical masterpiece of the 16th century by the composer Jasquin Desprez and contemporary sound art by Karikis. The relationship between classical music and sound art is a subject of ceaseless debate, and the artist’s project explored that relationship further by juxtaposing the specific role and use of voice in the music of Josquin with interruptive vocal techniques in a specially commissioned work by Karikis.
