Artists

The exhibition, entitled Artists, presents artist portraits by Jason Schmidt, ranging from 2001 to 2017. A wide range of artists are included, from established figures such as John Baldessari and Maurizio Cattelan to emerging artists like Ryan Trecartin and Servane Mary. Like photographers of previous generations, known for their artist portraits such as Man Ray, Hans Namuth and Ugo Mulas, Schmidt’s photographs are more than just portraits. They provide remarkable insights into how the artists approach their work and the creative process. Each of the 23 artist portraits exhibited is its self-contained world, specific to the artist’s mythology and methodology, that informs and ultimately becomes their art.
