Dis•Mis•Placed is the first solo show of Virgina Colwell in Europe. The works selected in this exhibition relate to displaced and misplaced histories, archives, landscapes, or conversations. Yet, for Colwell, the space left behind by the displaced need not be understood as an absence or a loss. Rather, in this gap, new meanings and strange juxtapositions can emerge. Colwell’s artworks play with misplacement by removing and rearranging historical imagery and information. These techniques mirror the artists’s perception of history as a constantly shifting narrative built upon fragmented stories, architecture, documents, and landscapes.
