L

All of L’s spells have a specific intention and magical function. They are always programmed towards generating benevolent and expansive states of being. Every item that is placed into the vessels has an alchemical purpose, which often creates peculiar or absurd juxtapositions. Sometimes, the materials are altered or charged in a ritual before the spell is cast.
When the objects are combined into their respective microcosms, suspended in oil, they produce a cumulative energy that is greater than their essence. In the creation of these spells, L draws upon knowledge obtained from a lifelong practice of folk ritual, ceremonial magic, and occultism.

L has exhibited their work at the Gagosian Gallery, Beverly Hills; Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Marlborough, New York; Stems Gallery, Brussels; Jeffrey Deitch + Nicodim, Los Angeles; Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City; The Ghetto Biennale, Port-au-Prince, amongst many other galleries and institutions internationally.

They will participate in Documenta Fifteen with Atis Rezistanz and The Ghetto Biennale in June of this year.
